The Health Promotion Consulting Group delivers in-house training programs in program development, research and program evaluation. "In-house" means that the training is delivered directly at your facility at a time that is convenient for you.

Evidence-Based Program Design

This session is intended for health promoters, public health professionals and others involved in program planning who wish to increase their capacity to use research evidence in program development and policy-related decision-making. The session is designed for people who have an understanding of research principles and methods. The session offers hands-on experience in gathering, analyzing, critiquing, and synthesizing various types of research evidence and applying evidence to develop sound health promotion programs.

The session is offered in-house to groups of up to 12 people. The session is delivered in five, half-day segments.

Course Objectives

  • To learn about the role of evidence in the program development cycle
  • To learn how to identify different sources of evidence and how to select from among them
  • To become familiar with the steps in collecting, assessing and synthesizing evidence
  • To understand how evidence can be applied in program-related decision-making

Session Fee

The session fee is $3500 for five, 1/2-day segments, for a group of up to 12 people. Fee includes all course materials.

Program Logic Model Learn-As-You-Go*

A program logic model is a visual map of your program for use in planning a new program, evaluating a program or communicating with stakeholders. In this session participants collaborate, with the assistance of a consultant, to develop a program logic model, complete with process and outcome indicators, that can be used in future planning and evaluation. Participants are encouraged to come in pairs and to bring a program or project idea of their own to work on. Participants will leave with a logic model that they can use immediately. Participants will gain knowledge of key concepts, definitions, strategies, SMART objectives, and process and outcome indicators.

The session is offered in-house to groups, up to a maximum of 12 people. The session is run in five, half-day segments.

Session Objectives

  • To gain knowledge of health promotion strategies, components, SMART objectives, and SMART indicator development.
  • To develop a program logic model for a designated program.
  • To develop accompanying process and outcome indicators for use in program planning and evaluation.

Session Fee

Measurement and Evaluation Learn-As-You-Go*

This session helps your organization to increase its capacity to measure and evaluate the impact of programs and projects, and communicate effectiveness to funders, partners and the public. Participants are encouraged to bring examples of their own programs to work on. Participants will gain knowledge of key concepts and evaluation principles, definitions, methods and tools used to measure and evaluate the impact of their programs and projects. Both process and outcome measurement will be discussed. Through the use of a step-by-step approach and standardized evaluation templates, participants will leave with evaluation frameworks they can use immediately.

The session is offered in-house to groups of up to 12 people. The session is delivered in four, half-day segments.

Session Objectives

  • To become familiar with the steps involved in developing an evaluation plan.
  • To work toward developing an evaluation plan for a specific project including identification of necessary evaluation tools and implementation resources.

Session Fee

Evaluation Tool Development

This session helps participants to select, develop, and implement the right type of evaluation tool for their evaluation needs. Participants will gain knowledge of commonly used evaluation tools, what to consider when selecting and implementing an evaluation tool, and will be walked through the stages of tool development. The session offers hands-on practice in developing a survey instrument and focus group guide. A customized version of the session is available to meet your precise needs.

The session is offered in-house to groups of up to 15 people. The session is delivered in half-day segments, the first segment is devoted to principles of tool development, and each subsequent half-day session is devoted to one specific type of evaluation tool.

Session Objectives

  • To become familiar with commonly used evaluation tools.
  • To learn how to select an appropriate evaluation tool for your evaluation design, population, and resources.
  • To understand the steps involved in evaluation tool development.

Session Fee

The session fee is $750 for each half-day segment for a group of up to 15 people. Fee includes all course materials.
